Inverness Highland Games

Ranking as one of the largest and oldest of the games on the summer calendar, the Inverness Highland games are certainly worth a visit if you want to see the top "Heavies" (The competitors in the traditional test of strength events - caber tossing, hammer throw etc.) competing. Add to this top class athletes in more conventional track events, Highland dancing and the Piping competition and you have a full days entertainment. The games will be on Saturday the 19th of July and Sunday the 20th of July this year at Bught Park, which is on the southern side of the city - if you're approaching from the south on the A82 then go over the canal swing bridge and then turn right.

Inverness is about 1 hours drive from the Great Glen Hostel and would make an excellent stop off the night before the games if you're heading up from southern Scotland or beyond to attend the games. On the night of the 20th there will also be a concert following the games at Bught park featuring the Scottish group The Proclaimers - sure to party on late into the night - gates open for this at 6pm.
